Paid Family and Medical Leave

Important note

The Maryland Department of Labor (MD Labor) recently proposed extending the timeline for implementation of the FAMLI program.

Under the new recommended plan:

payroll deductions would begin January 1, 2027
benefits would become available on January 1, 2028

This change will require legislative action by the General Assembly in the coming weeks and will require changes to the information presented on this site.

In anticipation of the extended timeline, we will be pausing any announced regulatory timelines including the process for applying to use a private plan, originally scheduled to begin in May 2025.

Paid Family and Medical Leave is coming to Maryland

Maryland is preparing to launch a new paid family and medical leave system! When the program launches, workers will be able to take time away from work to care for themselves or a family member and still be paid up to $1000 a week for up to 12 weeks.
